Our Story

Horizons was born out of prayer, unity, and obedience to God.

Long before Horizons existed, a group of local pastors gathered to pray—asking God to raise up a ministry where churches could work together to care for people and proclaim the Gospel. That prayer took place at St. John’s Church, the very place where Horizons would eventually begin.

From the beginning, Horizons was never meant to be a single effort. It was founded as a collaboration of churches who set aside differences and agreed on what mattered most: loving people, meeting needs, and pointing hearts to Jesus. We believe God has continually poured out His favor because His people chose unity.
Our current home—once a Kroger grocery store.
St. John's Church where Horizons first started.
In the late 2000s, as community members began knocking on the doors of St. John’s asking for food and help, that need became impossible to ignore. What started as one meal a week quickly grew. In 2008, several churches joined together, and Horizons was officially incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
As the ministry grew, so did the need for space.

In 2014, God provided a new home at 224 S. 8th Street—once a grocery store, now a place of nourishment again. With no prior experience and limited resources, Horizons stepped forward in faith. When we hammered the first nail, provision followed. In less than a year, over $750,000 was raised, renovations were completed without borrowing a penny, and Horizons became debt-free.

In August 2016, we opened our doors in our new home.

HORIZONS TODAY...

Today, Horizons is supported by over 30 churches across Adams County and surrounding areas. We continue to serve together—mind, body, and soul—believing that when God’s people walk in unity, lives are changed and hope is restored.

As the need grows, God continues to provide. Over half a million meals served, hundreds of thousands of pounds of groceries given—and still counting.
